Notes of California poppy, owl's clover & coreopsis.
The rolling plains of Antelope Valley in Southern California come alive each year when the California poppies bloom. From March through May, the poppies illuminate the hillsides with bursts of bright orange and yellow. These delicate flowers are self-seeding, and if left alone, will come back in abundance the following year. Walking on designated trails is essential in this reserve because beneath the unfurling neon petals lies fragile soil and the slightest amount of impact can leave the earth bare for years after.
